A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Hobart today, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.
The thunderstorm was detected near Glenorchy and Old Beach at 12pm on Sunday and is moving south.
It is forecast to impact Hobart and Lindisfarne by 12:30pm and Kingston and Taroona by 1pm.
The State Emergency Service is advising people to avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters and to seek shelter indoors.
They should also be on the lookout for fallen trees and powerlines and avoid using the telephone during the storm.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also in place for the Upper Derwent Valley, East Coast, Midlands and parts of the South East, North East, Central Plateau and Western districts.
