Former Tasmanian Greens leader Cassy O’Connor will run as a candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Hobart.
O’Connor announced her candidacy four months after resigning from her Clark seat in the state parliament, a position she held for 15 years.

Having secured her party’s preselection, she will vie for the seat on May 4 next year, with a campaign focused on social justice, creating a fair society and increasing investments in hospitals and schools.
O’Connor was the first female Greens MP in Australia to hold ministerial positions, serving as Minister for Human Services, Community Development, Climate Change and Aboriginal Affairs.
