Four youths, aged between 12 and 16-years-old, have been charged with multiple offences allegedly committed across the greater Hobart area in recent weeks.
Police arrested a 12-year-old female, a 13-year-old female, a 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male in Bridgewater on Tuesday.
The young people allegedly stole from businesses, caused property damage and carried out assaults in New Norfolk, Bridgewater and Hobart areas.
Three of the youths have been detained to appear in the Youth Justice Division of the Hobart Magistrates Court.
Acting Inspector Dee Rowe said police were continuing to address youth crime issues in the community.
“Police are doing all we can, but we can’t do it alone,” she said.
“Our community deserves to feel safe at home, out in public and in their workplaces. That’s why we are continuing to conduct high visibility patrols across the district. Our police are responding to these incidents, and charging offenders.”
“Police also actively seek out opportunities for the diversion and rehabilitation of youth offenders because we know early intervention is particularly beneficial in preventing crime.”
She urged the community to report anti-social behaviour to the police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
“Police are committed to protecting the community and local businesses and detecting and preventing anti-social and unlawful behaviour with the aim of making our public spaces safer for everyone,” Rowe said.
