Spreyton man accused of deliberately running down person he knew following Devonport dispute

A Spreyton man accused of deliberately driving his Hilux at another man during an argument in Devonport on Saturday is facing serious assault charges.

Police allege the 42-year-old deliberately drove into a 52-year-old man after the despite in Rose Court around 12:50pm on Saturday.

The victim, who was “known to” the man, was taken to the Launceston General Hospital by ambulance with chest injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

The incident prompted a brief closure of Rose Court and part of Best Street while police investigated and gathered evidence.

The 42-year-old has been charged with assault, driving on a suspended licence and unrelated drug offences.

He was held in custody and appeared before the Devonport Magistrates Court in an out-of-hours session on Sunday.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV footage to come forward.

“Anyone with information or CCTV of the incident is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestopperstas.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously,” a spokesperson said.
