A significant Tasmanian park that honours those who made great sacrifices for Australia has fallen victim to a senseless act of vandalism overnight.
The Clarence City Council say at least two vehicles accessed ANZAC Park in Lindisfarne, causing extensive damage to the grass area at the memorial site.
“It is particularly saddening for this to occur so close to Anzac Day,” the council said.
‘We also have reports of similar damage at the Geilston Bay #2 school oval.”
It is unclear whether the same culprits were responsible for both incidents.
Tasmania Police were informed of the situation and attended ANZAC Park at around 3AM, however they were unable to locate the perpetrators.
The council is calling upon members of the community to come forward with any information they may have by contacting Police on 131 444 or report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
