The Easter holiday rush will begin at Hobart Airport this morning, with 54,000 travellers expected to pass through the terminal over the next six days.

Airport CEO Norris Carter said airlines were running an extra 8-10 flights per day to keep up with demand.

“Easter is a close second to Christmas, when it comes to popular times for travellers to take to the skies for a holiday,” he said.

“Tassie is a very popular destination for an Easter-break, and our airlines are adding capacity to meet this demand, around a 6% increase across the six day period.”

Carter said the tourism boom currently seen across the state comes as a $200m project that will double the size of the terminal for the busy years ahead begins.

“While our expansion plans are well underway and set for completion in early 2027, we’re also taking immediate action to assist travellers this Easter,” he said.

“We’ll have extra staff and volunteers on hand to assist travellers moving through the airport and make the whole experience as stress free as possible.”
