A Hobart man has been charged by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for allegedly abusing an airport staff member at Gold Coast Airport four months ago.
The 61-year-old from Claremont was arrested at the airport on June 26 after the incident, with police saying he was uncooperative with officers leading up to his arrest.
AFP Superintendent Mark Yarrow said there is “zero tolerance” for abusive behaviour in airports.
“Our airports are a shared space and airport staff should not be subjected to verbal abuse or any other bad behaviour,” he said.
“The AFP works closely with our partners in the airline industry to intervene if anyone’s behaviour in or around an airport becomes aggressive.”
The man first appeared in court in August and the case was adjourned until Friday.
He is facing charges of assault or obstruction of police and public nuisance, each of which carries a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment or a $6,452 fine.
