Tasmania is set to host some of Australia’s finest hockey players later this year for the 2024 Hockey One League Finals.

The Tasmanian Hockey Centre in New Town will be the venue for the finals of Australia’s premier senior elite national competition, which features the country’s top male and female players, including international athletes.

“This event will make Tasmania the national hockey capital,” Member for Clark Simon Behrakis said.

The State Government is supporting the event with $200,000 in funding.

Seven teams from Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT will compete in the League.

The finals will be held from Saturday, November 30 to Sunday, December 1, with tickets to go on sale in August.

“Events like this show that by investing in sports infrastructure we can attract major events like this and make sure our place on the national sporting stage can’t be ignored,” Behrakis said.

“Major sports events are a huge drawcard for both interstate and intrastate visitors and are a great way to get the community interested and involved in sport.”
