Hobart’s highly anticipated ‘Fireworks Spectacular’ event on May 25 has been cancelled due to predicted wet weather and the chance of a potential thunderstorm.
The Royal Hobart Regatta Association announced the difficult decision with “heavy hearts” on Sunday evening.
“On review of the long-range weather forecast we’re alert to the likelihood of an event of this nature needing to be postponed in inclement weather and so we’ve made this difficult decision,” a spokesperson said.
“It’s important to us that our events and activities are conducted well, safely and for the enjoyment of all.”
“We’re truly sorry. We know, that like our hard-working impassioned volunteers you were all just as excited for more fireworks coupled with too much fairy floss and a Bertie Beatle showbag but alas, it’s not to be at this moment.”

Organisers look forward to welcoming the community back for a fireworks display when the Royal Hobart Regatta returns in 2025.
Despite the cancellation of the Hobart event, several other fireworks displays are still scheduled for May 25th.
These include the Geneva Bonfire and Fireworks in Latrobe, the Glen Derwent Tea Rooms Cracker Night in New Norfolk and the Redbanks Cracker Night in Nugent.
