An investigation has been launched after human skeletal remains were discovered in farmland at Clifton Beach.

The remains, along with a pair of black dress shoes, a short sleeve top, and a plastic bag containing keys, a lighter and possible ID cards, were discovered by a local resident in July.

Inspector Andrew Keane says forensic analysis has confirmed that the remains are human, but an identification has not yet been made.

“Preliminary forensic analysis determined the remains belong to a man of Caucasian or Indian sub-continental descent, most likely to be middle aged,’ Keane said.

It is believed that the remains may have been at the location above the cliffs, half-way between Clifton Beach and Goats Beach, for at least five to thirty years.

Keane said while there are no signs of violence, Police are treating the case as suspicious until evidence proves otherwise.

“Further in-depth forensic analysis will be conducted in attempts to identify the remains.”

Anyone with information that could assist in solving the mystery of the remains is urged to contact Police or Crimestoppers.
