British comedian David Walliams has joined with two young performers from the upcoming Hobart theatre production of ‘Annie’ for a special rendition of the classic musical tune ‘Tomorrow’.
Walliams, who was in Tasmania for his show at Wrest Point on Tuesday night, met with the girls at Hobart’s Theatre Royal and shared a video of the impromptu performance on Instagram.
The video has since been viewed around 100,000 times, with producer John Xintavelonis saying young actresses Esther Walsh (left) and Calliope Xintavelonis (right) had “NO idea how to handle David Walliams”.
People took to the comments to share their thoughts on the rendition.
Don’t give up the day job David, the girls however were fabulous,” one comment said.
“They were perfect the whole time, despite you being silly [David],” another said.
The Theatre Royal production of ‘Annie’ opens on Friday and will feature a cast of local performers, including John ‘X’ Xintavelonis as Daddy Warbucks.
The musical is being directed by Ingrid Ganley and Cassie Xintavelonis, with musical support from Matt Ives and Choreography from Kate Crichton.
Over 80 children auditioned for the production, before directors settled with a cast of 35 performers across 15 shows.
Assistant Director, Cassie Xintavelonis said this year’s show is “really special” for the adult cast, because three of them were also in the last Hobart production of Annie twenty years ago.
“John [Xintavelonis] played Daddy Warbucks, Michelle [Williams] played Lily and I was a Boylan sister and a maid,” she said.
“So lots of fond memories that we now kind of get to share with the younger generation, which is great.”
Annie will run from October 11 to 26 at the Theatre Royal in Hobart.
