Dover resident unaccounted for after late-night fire destroys house and car

Update – 12pm, Thursday December 21: Police say they have spoken to the resident who confirmed they are safe and well.

Update – 9:20am, Thursday December 21: The resident of a Dover house that was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of this morning remains unaccounted for, the Tasmania Fire Service say.

Fire crews from Dover and Geeveston found the house fully ablaze and a car on fire in the driveway when they arrived at the scene shortly after midnight on Thursday morning.

The TFS say firefighters were initially unable to immediately start fighting the fire due to live power lines in the area.

“A fire investigation is currently underway and police forensics are currently on the scene,” a TFS spokesperson said.

Huon Highway reopens to one lane after house goes up in flames

7:10am, Thursday December 21: The Huon Highway at Dover has reopened to one lane after a house fire shut the road in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at a property 1km from the Dover township just after midnight on Thursday, with police closing the road for several hours a short time later.

The Tasmania Fire Service say crews from Dover and Geeveston were alerted to the house fire after receiving “multiple triple zero calls”.

Upon arrival, they found the house “fully ablaze”.

“Emergency Services are currently on scene of a structure fire at Huon Highway … [A] detour is in place along Esperance Coast Road,” Police said at 2:20am.

By 5:40am the road was open to one lane of traffic.

“The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this stage,” they said.

It is understood the house was fully destroyed in the blaze.
