Tasmanian Labor is calling on Premier Jeremy Rockliff to make a decision on the proposed AFL high-performance centre in Rosny as soon as possible.

Shadow Sport spokesperson Luke Edmunds said the Premier has a contract with the AFL to approve the development by the end of the year and get it built it by the end of next year.

“The vote’s out of the way. The verdict’s in. This has got to be done by the end of 2025,” he said.

“Development applications do take time and if that’s going to be done by Christmas this year, I’d say the clock really is ticking on Mr Rockliff.”

“It’s been almost eight months since the site was chosen and we still have no designs, no planning application and the Minister seems to be backpedalling to Kingborough.”

A recent elector poll found that 51.39% of residents support the proposed AFL high-performance centre at the Rosny Parklands.

“It’s fantastic to see that the community have spoken,” Mayor Brendan Blomeley said.

“The elector poll has won its course and what the community have said is that they want the high performance centre to be situated in the Rosny Golf Course site and that’s something that we’re now determined to push forward and deliver.”

The Department of State Growth is managing the $70 million project, which is being funded with $60 million of state government money and $10 million from the AFL.

The state government says it is continuing to work on delivering the project.
