Liberal Leader and hopeful Premier re-elect Jeremy Rockliff has unveiled what is believed to be Australia’s largest-ever election billboard.

At twice the size of the MCG, the farmer-turned-Premier orchestrated for a tractor to carve the campaign slogan “2030 Strong Plan” into the earth at the back paddock of his family farm in Tasmania’s north-west.

The eight-hectare paddock billboard took over an hour to plough, with the aid of GPS technology typically used for precision agriculture.

Each individual letter stands around 40 metres high and about 30 metres wide, with the entire slogan spanning an estimated 350 metres in length.

A campaign spokesperson said the billboard seemed fitting for the “down to earth” Premier and that is was ‘better by a country mile’ than the typical election gimmick of a hat or a stubby holder.

“At your typical Australian political campaign launch, you’re in a stuffy conference room, with bright lights, a big stage and loud music,” they said.

“That’s just not Jeremy’s style. When his mum Gerry opened the farm gate to hosting the event at the farm where Jeremy grew up, it just seemed perfect.”

“As his family have said, he’s gone from running around here in the paddocks to running the state and he’s never lost sight of where he came from.”
