Parts of Tasmania’s north-west coast are in for potential thunderstorms this afternoon as a weather system moves across the Bass Strait.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for much of Victoria, with some wet and wild weather to be felt in Burnie, Ulverstone and Devonport.
BOM meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said the storms are unlikely to be as severe as those predicted for Victoria, but could still bring strong wind gusts, hail and rain.
“In those severe thunderstorm areas we may see damaging wind gusts tearing through with any storms that develop,” she said.
“Winds of that strength may bring down trees or tree limbs, potentially damaging power lines or property and leading to possible power outages.”
The storm is currently moving eastwards and is expected to linger around the north-west coast for the next two to three hours.
