A man has been charged with allegedly lighting a fire that took several hours to bring under control at Alum Cliffs near Kingston.
Emergency services were called to the blaze near Harpers Road on Bonnet Hill just before 4pm on Saturday.
Senior Constable Tim Brouwer said a section of vegetation was “well alight” upon arrival.
He said several Tasmania Fire Service units worked for around two hours to contain the fire.
The 32-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully setting fire to vegetation and bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
“Deliberately setting fires is a reckless and dangerous act that puts lives at risk and causes considerable damage to property,” Brouwer said.
“It also places an unnecessary strain on our emergency services.”
“People who deliberately light fires will be held accountable for their actions.”
