Mass power outages across southern Tasmania as strong winds sweep state

Over 3,000 homes and businesses across Tasmania have been left without power tonight, as severe weather sweeps across the state.

Around 1,000 customers in the Huon Valley have been without power for much of the evening due to a downed wire incident in Geeveston.

The affected areas include Geeveston, Glendevie, Police Point, Surges Bay, Surveyors Bay and Waterloo.

TasNetworks crews are currently inspecting the damage and working to restore power as soon as possible.

A separate outage is also impacting 1,033 customers in Bagdad, Dysart, Jericho, Kempton, Mangalore and Melton Mowbray.

The estimated restoration time for both outages is yet to be confirmed.

An earlier outage that wasaffecting over 1,000 homes and businesses in the Sandy Bay and Mt Nelson area earlier today has been resolved.
