Metro has resumed previously suspended routes into Hobart’s northern suburbs overnight, following a reduction in “incidents of rock throwing” in recent weeks.

Evening services were restricted from entering parts of Gagebrook, Herdsmans Cove and Bridgewater three months ago after a spate of attacks on buses left several vehicles damaged and drivers shaken.

A spokesperson for the public transport provider said as incident numbers have now decreased, Metro can now begin a staged reintroduction of evening services to the suburbs.

“During the first stage of reintroduction, later evening route 522 services will continue to terminate at and commence from Cove Hill Fair,” they said.

522 buses from Hobart will “not continue to Herdsmans Cove and Gagebrook” after 8pm from Monday to Sunday, except until midnight on Fridays.

Services to Hobart after 8:30pm from Monday to Sunday and 10:40pm on Friday will also start from Cove Hill Fair.

“Metro continues to work closely with Tasmania Police to monitor and respond to safety incidents,” the spokesperson said.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to monitor safety incidents and prioritise safety of our drivers and customers.”
