Metro bus services to the Hobart suburbs of Gagebrook and Herdsmans Cove are being ‘fully restored’ after a reduction in rock-throwing incidents.

Route 522, 530, X30 and 696 services will all resume normal operations from today.

Metro initially adjusted services earlier this year following the incidents, including one involving a 14-year-old from who allegedly smashed the windscreen of a bus.

Tasmania Police Inspector Jim Semmens said such incidents were “uncommon” but “very dangerous”.

“Throwing rocks at any vehicle is unacceptable and dangerous, particularly in the case of heavy vehicles like busses as it places the driver, passengers and members of the community in danger,” he at the time.

Metro say they will continue to work closely with Tasmania Police to monitor and respond to incidents in the area.

Transport Minister Eric Abetz said “acts of criminal behaviour that occur on, around or to our buses is unacceptable and will not be tolerated”.

“The full restoration of services is excellent news for the residents of these communities,” he said.

“We recognise the impact that the cessation of services has had on those members of the community who rely on buses and do the right thing.”

“However, the safety of both bus drivers and passengers is paramount and we acknowledge the hard work Metro has done in ensuring this.”
