Hobart is preparing for a significant influx of over 80 cruise ships in the coming months, with the first vessel set to arrive in just over 30 days.
The Crown Princess, carrying over 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew, will arrive in the capital on October 28th.
Destination Southern Tasmania chief executive Alex Heroys says this will mark the start of a busy season for the city’s tourism industry.
In total, Hobart will welcome more than 138,000 passengers and 55,000 crew members throughout the season.
“This season, some 20 ships will also head to Port Arthur,” Heroys said.
“And eight ships will come into Hobart as their first port of call from international waters.”
Two new boutique cruise ships, the Norwegian Sun and Bolette, are also scheduled to visit Hobart for the first time.
The Celebrity Edge will be the second ship to arrive on November 4th, followed by the Disney Wonder from Melbourne on November 11th.
According to TasPorts data, 15 cruise ships are currently scheduled to dock in Burnie.
Thousands of cruise passengers were unable to visit Tasmanian ports towards the end of the last cruise season due to a disruptive strike by TasPorts marine pilots.
