Man suffers burns in attempt to save Huon Valley home from fire

Updated 5:15pm, Sunday 3 December: A man has been left with minor burns to his hands after attempting to put out a house fire in the Huon Valley this afternoon.

The blaze on Middle Road at Pelverata, around 16 minutes from Huonville, had “completely destroyed” the home valued at around $600,000 by the time emergency services arrived shortly after 2pm on Sunday.

Police say the owners of the property were home when the fire broke out, with a man who discovered the fire and tried to extinguish it fortunately escaping without serious injuries.

The fire is currently being treated as accidental, with fire investigators still examining the scene.

Middle Road shut as firefighters battle blaze at Pelverata property

3:35pm, Sunday 2 November: Firefighters from across the Huon Valley are currently battling a large structure fire in Pelverata this afternoon.

Tasmania Fire Service crews from Sandfly, Cradoc and Huonville were called to the scene of the blaze on Middle Road, approximately 1km outside the Pelverata township, shortly after 2pm on Sunday.

They say the single-story property was already well-engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Police have closed Middle Road and have indicated that it will remain closed until the fire is brought under control.
