Tasmania’s ‘Ticket to Play’ voucher program has expanded its eligibility criteria after over 12,400 redemptions last year to encourage more kids to participate in sports.
Previously, the program offered two $100 vouchers to healthcare and concession card holders or children in out-of-home care.
Now, it includes children of families receiving the Family Tax Benefit Part A Supplement.
Minister for Sport Nic Street said 12,465 vouchers were used last financial year, with the expansion expected to result in the use of an additional 2,500 vouchers.
“That’s increased from 10,799 in 2022-23, with AFL football, soccer and basketball at the head of the list of popular sports, followed by learn to swim, gymnastics and dance,” Street said.
“We know the benefits participating in sport and active recreation can have for health and wellbeing and we want as many Tasmanians as possible to be able to get out there and get involved in the activity that best suits them.”
A new initiative for older Tasmanians is also planned to go live in the near future, to provide a voucher to promote health and wellness activities.
