Motorcyclist clocked at double speed limit has bike impounded for four weeks

A motorcyclist from Ulverstone has had his bike impounded for the next four weeks after being caught racing down a north-west road at 130km/h.

The man was stopped on Preservation Drive at Sulphur Creek just before 3pm on Friday, an area with a speed limit of 70km/h.

Officers were undertaking a traffic operation in the area when they detected the rider, travelling at almost double the legal limit.

A second bike was also caught racing at 147km/h.

Police say they are making enquiries to identify the second rider.

“It is extremely disappointing that someone would have such a disregard for the safety of other road users and accept the risk that comes with such high speeds,” a spokesperson said.

“During this nicer weather, there is a high number of road users which include cyclists and pedestrians.”

“We implore everyone to obey speed signs and take responsibility for their part in keeping our roads safe.”
