A Tasmania motorcyclist has been left shaken after a close call with a ute that lost two large tyres over the weekend.

The rider was following behind the 4wD vehicle on Middle Tea Tree Road near Richmond on Sunday when the incident occurred.

In a post to social media, the motorcyclist accused the driver of “trying to murder” him with his “partly secured load”.

“He hit a dip in the road and two 4×4 wheels and tyres came out the back and tried to wipe me off the road,” he wrote.

“Luckily there was little damage except a bent handlebar and a sore left hand. Some days you can be very lucky.”

The rider had only just passed a car driving in the opposite direction less than a second before the tyres went flying.

This left the rider with just enough time to be able to move into the oncoming lane.

In a statement to Pulse, Tasmania Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.

They said any driver operating a vehicle with a load which is not safely and securely fastened could face a fine of up to $8,080.
