No foul play suspected as police suspend search for missing Hobart boatie

The search for a missing man in his 70s has been suspended after his unattended boat washed ashore at Kingston Beach two days ago.

Commander Jason Elmer said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding what is a tragic incident.

“As part of our investigation, police have reviewed CCTV from several locations, located personal items and spoken to a number of people,” he said.

“Extensive searches have been conducted, utilising marine resources and two helicopters, however unfortunately at this stage the man has not been located.”

Police believe the man fell into the Derwent River on Wednesday and was not wearing a lifejacket at the time.

“Following a comprehensive review, the search has been suspended, however we will continue to investigate any information received,” Elmer said.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the missing man.”
