Two young P-platers have been caught speeding at over 160km/h on the Bass Highway on Christmas Day.
The first driver, an 18-year-old, was clocked at 160km/h in a 110km/h zone near Hagley at 7:30am yesterday.
Less than an hour later, another teenager was stopped doing 172km/h in a 110km/h zone near Deloraine.
Police say both drivers will be slapped with licence disqualification periods and hefty fines.
One of the vehicles involved has been clamped for a minimum of 28 days, while the other will be in the coming days.
“Driving at this speed causes danger for not only these drivers, but all road users,” police said.
“This should serve as a warning for traffic offenders that police will be looking out for you while we’re on patrol.”
The detections were made during Operation Safe Arrival, which aims to keep the roads safe over the Christmas and New Year period.
“As part of [the operation] … police will have high-visibility and covert patrols on our highways and main roads and we’ll be covering other routes, back streets and rural areas.”
