The suspected theft of World War II memorabilia from the Queenstown RSL has prompted the organisation to launch an appeal pleading for their return.

Despite being bolted to a brick wall, the branch says their two “treasured” standard issue World War II bayonets were removed from their Cutten Street club in recent months.

“Useful information regarding their removal from the Sub Branch during the period of the 29th of September 2023 to the 2nd of November 2023 can be given directly to Queenstown Police or the Queenstown RSL,” they said.

“We seek the safe return of these treasured items as part of our vast array of memorabilia for the benefit of future generations.”

They suspect tools would have been required to remove them from the wall.

“It certainly is extremely sad and incredibly disappointing to think that someone in our community thought they had the right to remove these bayonets that were generously donated for display,” the RSL said.

“Someone out there must know something.”

Information can be passed onto Queenstown Police on 131444 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
