Hobart Airport has enjoyed a smooth start to the school holidays, with minimal disruptions despite a significant increase in passenger traffic.

While some delays of around 30 minutes were reported on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with longer delays impacting Rex and Jetstar flights on Sunday afternoon, the overall experience for travellers has been positive.

The airport is expecting an additional 33,000 visitors to the end of the month since Easter, a 12% increase compared to last year.

CEO Norris Carter said the surge has been backed up by around 10 extra flights per day on the busiest travel days.

“For all the families preparing for the fun but potentially stressful school holiday travel time, there are some simple things they can do to make it a little bit easier,” he said.

“Check with your airline for all the latest updates on flight times, allow plenty of time to park, check-in and clear security … and keep an eye out for our staff and volunteers who are there to help.”

At Launceston Airport, only some delays involving Jetstar and Qantas flights were experienced, including the cancellation of the early morning Sunday Jetstar service to Melbourne.
