Speaker Mark Shelton is nearing the end of his third annual walk from Launceston to Hobart, dedicated to raising funds for charity.

Shelton left the north on Monday morning in 30+ degree heat, alongside Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood, Jo Palmer, Simon Wood and the CEO of St Giles Honni Pitt as he walked the 43km to Epping Forest.

“St Giles do a marvellous job with our children with special needs and I’m pleased to be able to do what I can do … walk to Hobart,” he said.

“The last couple [of walks] that I’ve been able to do has raised around the $20,000 mark for St Giles. That’s $100 a kilometre and it would be lovely to get to that figure again this year.”

Day 2 was a 7-hour, 34.7km journey from Epping Forest to Ross, while Day 3 stretched over 11 hours and covered approximately 50km.

“Stopped for a refuel and made a slight adjustment to the shoes to accommodate the blisters,” Shelton said as he arrived in Ross on Tuesday night.
