Speeding and phone use dominate traffic offences detected in Hobart operation

Two people were arrested and 31 traffic offences were detected during a police operation on Hobart roads yesterday morning.

Officers targeting the city’s peak hour commute issued infringements for a range of violations, including speeding, running red lights and using phones while driving.

Thirteen drivers were caught speeding, two ran red lights, one was driving without a licence and eight were caught using their phones behind the wheel.

One person was caught driving without a seatbelt, another failed to give way and two parking offences were detected.

A vehicle with defects was also stopped.

“We remain committed to road safety and will continue to target unsafe motorists using both high-visibility and covert techniques,” police said.

“Every time you get behind the wheel, remember to give the road your full attention.”

“Distraction and inattention significantly contribute to serious and fatal crashes.”

Several crashes were reported around greater Hobart on Wednesday, causing widespread delays f0r motorists.
