Strong winds bring down trees, cut power for hundreds in Tasmania

Strong, damaging winds have brought down a tree at Seven Mile Beach this morning.

According to TasNetworks, the fallen tree has cut power to around 825 homes and is blocking Seven Mile Beach road in both directions.

An estimated power restoration time has not yet been provided by the company.

Multiple other areas are also affected by fallen trees and powerlines, including Sandy Bay and Birralee.

The BOM yesterday issued a severe weather warning for all of Tasmania, saying ‘peak gusts in excess of 125 km/h’ are possible during Thursday morning about the south and the east coast.
