Tasmanian Labor reveals 'heavily shaken up' shadow cabinet lineup after losing fourth election in a row

Tasmanian Labor has undergone a significant reshuffle after Dean Winter took the reins as leader, as the party prepares for yet another term in opposition.

Winter, speaking at Macquarie Wharf in Hobart on Tuesday, said he will now focus on portfolios crucial for job creation, including Trade, Major Investment and Tourism & Hospitality, having previously been responsible for Energy, Finance and Racing.

“Having just lost our fourth election in a row, it’s clear that we need to change some things and so this reshuffle represents very significant change,” he said.

“We need to do our best to reconnect with regional Tasmania to focus on jobs, on the economy and holding this government to account.”

Key changes to the party lineup include Deputy Leader Anita Dow transiting from Health to a broader portfolio including Infrastructure, Education & Training, Industry & Regional Development, Local Government and Small Business.

Shane Broad has been replaced as Shadow Treasurer by Josh Willie and will now take on Housing, Planning, Building & Construction and Consumer Affairs.

Former Leader Rebecca White has moved on from Tourism and Infrastructure portfolios to take on the role of Shadow Attorney-General and Shadow Minister for Justice.

Janie Finlay expands her focus on environmental issues by taking over Energy and Emissions Reduction and Ella Haddad moves from Housing to Health, Disability and Equality portfolios.

Franklin newcomer Meg Brown will tackle Transport and Prevention of Family & Sexual Violence, while Luke Edmunds will become the Shadow Minister for Racing and Sport.
