Travellers hoping to leave Tasmania for Melbourne are facing significant delays at the state’s airports due to thick fog blanketing the city.
Melbourne Airport reported “heavy fog” impacting operations and causing delays of 30 to 60 minutes on Monday morning.
“Flights departing for Melbourne Airport were instructed to hold earlier this morning however conditions have now improved and flights have recommenced,” the airport said at midday.
“There are currently minimal delays to departing aircraft, but we will monitor conditions throughout the rest of the day.”
The delays began early in the day in Hobart, with the 6:15am Qantas departure delayed until 7:09am and the 6:20am Virgin flight pushed back to 7:17am.
The 8:25am Jetstar flight took off over an hour and a half late at 10:07am, with other flights across the morning enduring delays of over two hours.
The 4:45pm Jetstar flight to Melbourne has been cancelled, along with the arriving service.
Flights from Melbourne to Launceston and Devonport are also experiencing delays of around two hours.
