The latest data from Tasmania’s accommodation and hospitality sector shows visitors to the state helped them achieve a strong spring quarter.

The Tasmanian Hospitality Association’s (THA) Hotel Occupancy Report for November shows 80.42% of available rooms across the state were booked.

THA chief executive Steve Old said this was up 6% from October and is the first time occupancy rates have been above 80% since a March record of 88.21%.

During spring, Tasmania had a 74.69% occupancy rate, down more than 3% from the same quarter in 2022.

“This is a great sign for operators following a sluggish winter where cost of living pressures and pent-up demand for overseas travel impacted local figures,” Old said.

“The entire 2022 year saw record after record broken for our accommodation operators, so to essentially be on par with our 2022 spring is extremely positive.”

“We know the middle of last year was tough for industry for a host of reasons. These figures are trending in the right direction and everything points to summer, which is our peak tourist season, being highly successful.”

“You only have to see the huge amount of foot traffic events such as Beerfest in the north and the Taste of Summer in Hobart have brought to the regions, as well as the number of festivals which have taken place across the Christmas and New Year period.”

“There is a real buzz around the state at the moment and I have no doubt it will continue in the coming months.”
