The red Holden Commodore was pulled over and the young driver identified, alongside their supervising driver and another passenger.

The vehicle has been impounded for 28 days and the driver will appear in court at a later date.

Police say speeding is one of the fatal five contributors to road deaths and offenders put themselves and other road users in danger.

They also reminded supervising drivers of the importance of their role in teaching learner drivers safe driving behaviours to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on Tasmanian roads.
