The popular Three Capes Track and Fortescue Bay Campground in the Tasman National Park will close for just over two weeks next month.
Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) has announced that both locations will be inaccessible from April 8th to 21st for fuel reduction burn operations and annual maintenance.
“The planned burn has been timed during autumn, when conditions are more stable and predictable and fuels are dry enough to burn well,” PWS said.
“The closure of the Three Capes Track is undertaken each year and is part of the PWS risk mitigation strategy for walkers and infrastructure to ensure the Three Capes Track experience as Australia’s premier coastal walk is maintained.”

The closure will affect the Three Capes Track, Old Cape Pillar Track, Bare Knoll Campground, Fortescue Bay Campground and the Tasman Trail from Canoe Bay to Fortescue Bay.
The Fortescue Bay public boat ramp and jetty will also be closed during the fire.

All tracks, marine infrastructure and the Fortescue Bay campground will remain closed after the burn until authorities deem the area safe to reopen.
The Waterfall Bluff Track, Crescent Bay Track, Mount Brown Track, Cape Raoul Track, Shipstern Bluff Track and Tunnel Bay Track will remain open to visitors during the burn period.
