Emergency services were called to the fire on Pipers River Road just after 7am, finding the house fully engulfed by fire.

“Just before lunchtime, it was confirmed that someone had passed away inside the residence,” Acting Tasmania Police Inspector Andrew Hanson said.

“At this stage, it’s believed that the occupant of the residence is a 55-year-old man that has passed away in the fire.”

Hanson said the man lived at the address with his 25-year-old son, who was home at the time of the fire.

“[He] actually tried to reach his dad to help him, but unfortunately was pushed back by the fire,” Hanson said.

“[He] managed to escape through a window.”

“The fire was obviously extreme enough for him not to be able to go and help his father.”

Fire scene investigators remain on the scene and are working to determine the cause of the fire.

“At this stage, we are satisfied that it’s not suspicious,” Hanson said.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family in this time.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
