The 43-year-old from Ranelagh was arrested after the hit-and-run incident on Wilmot Road in Huonville around 4:45pm on Saturday, police said.

Officers located the man a short time later and found him to be intoxicated, charging him with drink driving and failing to stop.

A 20-year-old man from Huonville is also facing a drink driving charge after he lost control of his vehicle on Conlans Road South at 8:55pm on Saturday.

Police say the man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, collided with a guard rail before coming to rest down an embankment.

He was taken into custody and found to have a breath alcohol content reading of 0.119.

Both men will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Senior Constable Adam Bertoli said the incidents were a reminder that this type of dangerous driving behaviour puts innocent people at risk.

“Police are out on the roads every day enforcing the rules to keep our community safe and we will continue to do everything we can to stop illegal and dangerous driving occurring,” he said.

“Anyone who sees such driving should call police immediately on 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.”
