A project that will create facilities to safely dispose of used vapes and recycle them is among 20 initiatives to share in $3.5 million of waste and resource recovery funding.

The High Priority Infrastructure Grants program will provide funding of between $10,000 and $500,000 to projects that seek to improve recycling facilities, equipment and systems.

Among the successful applicants are the Devonport City Council, which will receive funding for an upgrade of resource recovery infrastructure and Dulverton Waste Management for a hospitality food waste collection truck.

The Kingborough Council also received funding towards creating a hazardous household waste collection, sorting and storage facility.

The Glenorchy City Council’s Jackson Street Recycling Hub will receive almost $100,000 to develop and expand its operations with a site office, hard stand area and increased capacity for loading bays.

Environment Minister Nick Duigan said the grants will contribute to the state government’s plan to “keep Tasmania clean and green”.

“These projects are designed to deliver a reduction in the amount of waste to landfill, contributing to our vision of Tasmania being a place where nothing is wasted,” he said.

Tasmanian Waste and Resource Recovery Board chair Pam Allan said it was pleasing to see so many reuse and recovery projects in the state.
