A West Coast man, allegedly responsible for a ‘reckless’ fireworks display over Zeehan homes during the weekend, has been charged.
The 41-year-old Zeehan local was arrested and charged on Sunday night after fireworks were set off over residential houses in the small town, police say.
He was again arrested and charged on Monday after further fireworks were reportedly set off, with officers executing a search warrant at a Zeehan home and seizing a “quantity of fireworks”.
Senior Sergeant James Scicluna emphasised the dangers associated with fireworks and reminded the public that they can only be possessed with a valid permit.
“Not only do fireworks disturb other residents, they also put properties at risk, with the potential to start fires,” Scicluna said.
“Police would like to thank the community members who alerted us to this risky behaviour.”
The man will appear in the Queenstown Magistrates Court in January.
