Motorists on the West Coast are fuming over the “atrocious” condition of their roads, with dozens of potholes several centimetres deep causing problems.
A local road conditions group on social media has been flooded with reports of the dangerous obstacles from frustrated drivers in recent days.
One local said a pothole they encountered “near threw [them] into the guard rail and truck coming towards us” and damaged the steering of their ute.
“Just one of the very many atrocious parts of the roads,” they said.
Another motorist accused the state government of treating West Coasters “as second class citizens” and suggested authorities are following an “out of sight, out of mind” approach.
“Unfortunately, it’s impossible to drive at no more than about 80km/h on Ridgley and Murchison Highway because the potholes are so bad,” a third person said.
“I say this every time they appear, but this is truly the worst I have ever seen potholes on the road.”
Large potholes have also been reported on the Bass Highway near Deloraine.
State Growth, the government department responsible for maintenance of major road and highway maintenance, said the Bass Highway potholes were likely been caused by recent wet weather.
They were quickly filled.
Motorists impacted by damage caused while using a road managed by the department may be entitled to compensation through their ‘Claims for damage’ webpage.
