A major road in the Hobart CBD has been partially closed after wild winds brought down a heritage tree.

The tree, located outside Town Hall Macquarie Street, appears to be ‘close to being uprooted’ and has prompted police to close the far right lane of the street between Elizabeth and Argyle Street.

City of Hobart Council staff are currently at the scene to remove the tree.

Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the far right lane of Macquarie Street and use the other footpath until the tree is removed.
