Quick-thinking members of the public have helped police charge two drink drivers in north-west Tasmania – including a woman who blew more than four times the legal limit.

The woman recorded a reading of 0.207 after reversing into another car in Wynyard on Thursday night.

Police were called to Beaufort Street about 7:40pm following reports she appeared intoxicated behind the wheel.

She has been banned from driving for two years.

On Friday night, a 32-year-old Penguin man was pulled over on the Bass Highway between Devonport and Ulverstone.

A Triple Zero caller had reported his erratic driving.

He returned a reading of 0.102 – more than double the legal limit – and will appear before the Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.

Acting Inspector Luke Negri said the incidents highlighted the value of public tip-offs.

He said the information gave police a crucial window to act.

“That information allows police to identify risks early and take action before someone is seriously hurt or killed,” he said.
