The historic Town Clock in Launceston has gone quiet, leaving the CBD without its usual hourly chime.
The timepiece is currently stuck at 12:00 while it undergoes routine maintenance.
The Launceston City Council expects the clock to be back up and running within the next few days.
Until then, locals and visitors will have to rely on their watches or phones to tell the time, while the clock will technically be correct twice a day.
The clock has been ticking above the Launceston Post Office for over a century, with its construction beginning in 1906.
A group of local citizens known as the Launceston Clock and Chimes Committee formed that year with the aim of extending the post office’s tower and installing a clock with chimes.
Their fundraising efforts were successful and by 1910, the project was complete – with ownership taken over by the city council.
The original clockwork is still in operation today, more than 110 years later.
