Sustainable Timber Tasmania has begun a large-scale fuel reduction burn at Redpa in the Circular Head region today, with smoke expected to blanket the area for several days.
The burn will cover approximately 1,345 hectares and forms part of the state-wide fuel reduction program designed to minimise the bushfire risk.
The operation will take one to two days to complete, though smoke may linger depending on wind conditions.
Public access to the burn site at Duffs Flat has been restricted during operations.
Authorities are urging people to stay well clear of the area until safety checks are completed on tracks and trails.

While fire intensity will be low, the burn will generate flames, smoke and ash that could affect air quality across the region.
People with medical conditions, particularly respiratory issues, are being urged to prepare a personal plan for avoiding smoke exposure.
The burn is the latest in ongoing effort to reduce fuel loads in high-risk bushfire areas before the summer fire season.
