Launceston Airport has unveiled its new multi-million dollar gateway, heralding a new era for the Northern tourism and transport hub.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael Ferguson, described the revamped Launceston Airport check-in hall as a ‘game-changer’ not only for the city but for the entire state

“The completion of this project marks a significant milestone in enhancing Tasmania’s aviation infrastructure,” Minister Ferguson said.

The new hall boasts twice the space of its predecessor and paves the way for the introduction of self-service check-in counters and enhanced security screening processes – upgrades which are slated for the end of the year.

In 2022-23, Launceston Airport welcomed close to 1.3 million passengers, and forecasts indicate this figure will soar to 2.5 million by 2040.

Last week, budget airline Bonza announced their new direct service between Launceston and the Gold Coast, which will lead to over 29,000 extra seats into Launceston each year.
