A woman has been left with a damage bill of around $150,000 after a fire tore through the kitchen of her Maydena home.

Tasmania Fire Service crews rushed to the Kallista Road address around 11pm on Tuesday after the resident called triple zero to report the blaze.

Firefighters from Westerway, Gretna, Bushy Park and New Norfolk arrived to find the kitchen and dining area engulfed in flames.

Their efforts managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the two-bedroom home, containing the damage to around $150,000.

An investigation into the blaze has since deemed the cause of the fire to be accidental.

The woman and her two dogs safely evacuated from the home before emergency services arrived, with the help of a neighbour.

The fire service said the incident is a timely reminder of the importance of having a working smoke alarm.

“The Tasmania Fire Service strongly recommends that homes are fitted with working smoke alarms in every sleeping area,” a spokesperson said.
