A teenage boy who passed away after being struck by a falling tree branch has been remembered as “the most polite, kind and compassionate human being”.
17-year-old Malakai Revill died while felling trees with his father near Dover in the Huon Valley on Sunday.
According to Tasmania Police, initial inquiries indicate Revill was struck by a falling branch, resulting in his death at the scene.
A family friend has launched a GoFundMe page to support the grieving family, which has raised over $4,400 at the time of writing.
The friend said his family are going through the “hardest of times”.
“I … hope the Huon Valley community and Hobart College Community will get behind this so we can raise the funds to ensure Malakai receives the send off service he truly deserves,” the fundraiser reads.
“Funds will go directly to the parents of Malakai who have expressed deep gratitude for those who are able to help.”
Huon Valley Deputy Mayor Toby Thorpe said the incident was “devastating news” for the close-knit community.
“Something special here in the Huon is we rally behind each other when a helping hand is needed,” he said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner following ongoing investigations into the incident.
