A Victorian Gothic church building in Tasmania’s Midlands is up for sale for the first time in 141 years.

The Ross church was formerly home to the Uniting Church in Australia, but the building has not been used as a place of worship for the past five years.

The listing agents say the property is a “landmark beacon on the hilltop as you travel past Ross” and is “one of Tasmania’s finest examples of the enduring craftsmanship of a bygone era dating back to 1882”.

“Polished floorboards through the majority of the building, an octagonal spire, Tasmanian blackwood pews, gabled slate roof, Horton window and stained glass windows, this property will take take your breath away when you walk inside,” the listing reads.

The 221sqm church is built from sandstone and timber and is heritage listed.

The property’s zoning allows for various potential uses, including a cafe, community meeting and entertainment, education, business and professional services and more.

The property will be sold via expressions of interest over $450,000 and will be open for inspection on November 18.
