22 new, temporary cameras are being installed around the Hobart CBD to ‘gather data’ on traffic and vehicle movements.

RoadsTas, the authority behind the traffic cameras, say they will be used to monitor ‘when and where’ vehicles travel through Hobart.

“The data we gather from the cameras will help with future planning and road projects,” a spokesperson said.

Cameras will be installed at 22 sites across Hobart, including Davey Street, Macquarie Street and the Brooker Highway, where they will remain until early May.

“Data collection will take place during next week, and the cameras will be removed by Sunday, 7 May 2023,” RoadTas say.

“The department will not have access to any personally identifiable information from these surveys.”
